Israeli Defense Forces Representative on Civilian Deaths
The Israeli Defense Forces have commented on the deaths of Palestinian civilians, stating, "We are doing everything possible to minimize collateral damage." During a press conference on Monday morning, IDF spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hecht responded to questions from journalists regarding civilian deaths in the Gaza Strip, which had been highlighted by the Washington Post in an online broadcast.
Hecht was asked whether Israeli forces had "struck homes where there were no militants," resulting in the deaths of civilians. He stated, "We do not focus our attacks on women and children. We are doing everything possible to minimize collateral damage." He further explained, "But we are at war with Hamas. And, unfortunately, there may be people who ultimately get killed. It is not intentional. And, unfortunately, Hamas has cynically strengthened [its targets] among the civilian population."
