The ‘Zangezur Corridor’ May Pass Through Iranian Territory, Says Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure
The concept of the ‘Zangezur Corridor’ may traverse Iranian territory. This was announced by Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, during a live broadcast on A Haber.
According to him, the issue is being discussed with Armenia, but it is possible that the corridor will pass through Iran. The Turkish minister emphasized that it would be one of the important routes of the Central Corridor.
“During President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Nakhchivan, we discussed the situation at the level of leaders and ministers. The Zangezur route will ensure connections from Turkey to Baku. This will be one of the critical routes of the Central Corridor. Negotiations are ongoing. From Nakhchivan to the ‘Dilucu’ border crossing, there is a line, with plans for the renovation and construction of a new line stretching 14 kilometers,” he stated.
The 43-kilometer segment of the ‘Zangezur Corridor’ runs along the border with Armenia. This is under discussion with the Armenian side. It is also possible that the corridor could be implemented through Iranian territory. We are considering how to make this a reality quickly,” he added.
It is worth noting that earlier it was reported that the Turkish president, speaking about the ‘Zangezur Corridor,’ stated that if Armenia does not participate, the route will pass through Iran.
