Parliamentary Committee to Discuss Ratification of the Rome Statute
The permanent committee on state-legal issues of the National Assembly will discuss the ratification of the Rome Statute. The draft is included in the agenda for the committee's meeting on September 28.
The main speaker of the draft is Yegishe Kirakosyan, a representative on international legal issues, while the co-reporter is Vladimir Vardanyan, the chairman of the committee.
Earlier, the Constitutional Court recognized the obligations enshrined in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court signed on July 17, 1998, as compliant with the constitution. In 2022, the Government appealed this issue to the Constitutional Court. Later, the executive body submitted the Rome Statute to the National Assembly for ratification.
The Government has revisited the issue of recognizing the Rome Statute, as the justification for this draft indicates a possibility of holding Azerbaijan accountable.
