EU, USA and International Actors Failed to Ensure Security Guarantees for Artsakh Armenians: Marukyan
Currently, thousands of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh are being evacuated to Armenia. This was stated by the Special Representative of Armenia Edmon Marukyan on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
According to him, these individuals are being evacuated because Azerbaijan carried out a military aggression against the civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19, resulting in not only hundreds of casualties and injuries but also thousands of civilians losing their homes, villages, and communities.
“In other words, due to the illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor and the aggression on September 19, the population has been subjected to hunger for nine months. They have been forcibly displaced from their homes, and after spending six days in basements, starving and thirsty, they have not been given the opportunity to return to their homes but have been evacuated from their ancestral land,” Marukyan wrote.
“We acknowledge that the Russian peacekeeping mission has not ensured their peaceful existence in Nagorno-Karabakh based on the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020. We accept that the EU, the USA, and all other international actors have been unable to guarantee the rights and security of the Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, despite the fact that these actors have repeatedly stated during their mediation efforts that the rights and inviolability of the Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh must be guaranteed within the framework of international mechanisms, allowing them to live secure lives in their ancestral lands,” Marukyan added.
