North Korea Conducts Nuclear Strike Drills Against South Korea

North Korea has conducted exercises that included simulated nuclear missile strikes targeting South Korea, as reported by Reuters, citing the North Korean Central News Agency. The modeling of nuclear strikes against South Korea's main command centers and operational airfields was Pyongyang's response to joint military drills conducted by South Korea and the United States in late August, according to DW.

These actions by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) are deemed comparable to the U.S. plans for a preemptive nuclear strike, writes Reuters.

During the exercises, Pyongyang launched two short-range ballistic missiles into the sea, which exploded in mid-air at an altitude of 400 meters above false targets. This occurred just hours after the U.S. began the airborne portion of joint drills with Seoul, deploying B-1 Lancer bombers to the region.

Shortly before the start of the exercises, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called on all military-industrial enterprises to accelerate mass production of various types of weapons and equipment.
