Which Students Will Receive a 70,000 Dram Scholarship
Currently, we have a scholarship policy, and only about 846 million drams were allocated from the state budget for scholarships in higher education institutions. However, this is not an incentive for the progress and improvement of the educational outcomes of the students, as the scholarship granted to each student ranges between 4,000 and 5,000 drams per month. This was stated by Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan during a government meeting while presenting a new legislative proposal.
"To implement this program more purposefully, we need to change the scholarship policy by increasing the amount of scholarship awarded to each student and clarifying the conditions and requirements for the allocation of scholarships," she said.
According to the minister, in the first phase of the implementation of this policy, pedagogical programs in the fields of natural sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics have been selected.
"This has a very clear objective, as we have had very concerning indicators in recent years—almost no one is applying to become a teacher in these fields. A monthly scholarship of 70,000 drams will be established for students majoring in pedagogy in these areas, and in cases of excellent academic performance, it will be 77,000 drams, which we believe will have a significant impact on the increase in the number of students in this profession," she noted.
The minister also mentioned that a scholarship of 50,000 drams will be allocated for students with disabilities, which can also be used for additional expenses related to their education. Additionally, this scholarship will be allocated to individuals without parental care.
"This will start to take effect for those admitted this year, meaning those who were studying until now will continue to receive their scholarship until they complete their education," she added.
