Confessed to Killing a Transgender Individual, Arson and Attempting to Cross the Armenian State Border

The Investigative Committee of Armenia, in collaboration with police officers, has revealed the circumstances surrounding the murder of a 28-year-old man that occurred the previous day. This was reported by the Committee.

On August 20, 2023, at 17:04, an emergency call was received by the rescue service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, reporting a fire in one of the apartments on Yeznick Koghbatsyu Street in Yerevan. Immediately, personnel from the Central Police Department and the rescue service were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered the body of the 28-year-old resident of the apartment, showing signs of stab wounds to the neck and chest.

A criminal case has been initiated based on the characteristics of Article 155, Part 1 and Article 264, Part 2, Points 2 and 6 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. During the preliminary investigation, necessary investigative and procedural actions were undertaken, including examination of the scene, seizures, collection of samples, and the appointment of a forensic examination to determine the nature and severity of the victim's injuries, as well as other circumstancesrelated to the incident. Over ten individuals have been interrogated.

As a result of immediate measures taken, both the identity of the victim and the alleged perpetrator were established. The investigation revealed that the victim had sustained life-threatening injuries inflicted by a 26-year-old resident of the Armavir region. Following actions taken by the officers of the Central Police Department, the suspect was located, presented to the investigative authority, and interrogated regarding the circumstances of the case. During the interrogation, he confessed to the murder, stating that after the act, he set the apartment on fire and attempted to cross the Armenian state border through the Bavra checkpoint.

According to the investigative body’s decision, the young man has been arrested. Procedural and evidential actions involving him are ongoing. The investigation continues, with measures being taken to uncover all the circumstances of the case and to find the murder weapon.

As previously reported, a brutal murder occurred in Yerevan, where a 28-year-old man was killed by multiple stab wounds. Online sources indicate that the deceased individual was transgender. The 26-year-old perpetrator has been arrested.
