Putin Promises to Tell Lukashenko About Stavropol Potatoes

Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised to inform Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko about the potatoes from the Stavropol region, which, according to local authorities, are superior to the Belarusian variety, TASS reports.

During a meeting with Stavropol Governor Vladimir Vladimirov, Putin responded to the governor's report on agriculture in the region. Vladimirov noted that potatoes had not previously been grown in the area.

"In accordance with your directives, we are expecting 600 thousand tons," the governor reported. When asked if that was enough potatoes, Putin inquired. Vladimirov then stated that he would personally bring some for the president to sample next time.

"How are things in Belarus?" Putin continued. "I think ours are better," replied the head of the Stavropol region. "I will tell Alexander Grigorievich," pledged the Russian president.
