The sunken "Titan" was struck by lightning in 2018: New details
During a 2018 dive, the "Titan" was struck by lightning, according to the Insider portal, referencing an interview given by Stockton Rush, head of OceanGate Expeditions, before the last dive.
"Fortunately, it was not a direct hit. A direct hit would probably have taken us completely offline. We were able to change all those components in just one or two days," Rush said at the time.
In the interview, he mentioned that the lightning strike damaged 70 percent of the submarine's equipment.
The five passengers of the "Titan" submersible spent their last moments in near-total darkness listening to music. Participants of the underwater expedition were encouraged to download their favorite songs to their phones so that they could be played through a Bluetooth speaker.
