Paris City Council Adopts Resolution to Assist Artsakh Residents and Refugees in Armenia
The Paris City Council has unanimously adopted a resolution for the "Provision of Urgent Assistance to the People of Artsakh and Refugees from Artsakh in Armenia." This was reported by the Armenian Embassy in France.
The resolution highlights the situation resulting from the illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan since December 12, 2022, which has disconnected 120,000 residents of Artsakh from the rest of the world.
“The resolution references the adoption by the Paris City Council of a call to the French government regarding the recognition of the Republic of Artsakh on November 27, 2020, the assistance provided to the residents of Artsakh by different administrative units in France, and numerous calls for support and solidarity directed at the Armenian people from the Paris City Hall. It underscores the importance of Paris’s continued support for the Armenian population of Artsakh,” the statement reads.
The city council also grants the mayor of Paris the authority to urge other administrative units in France and foreign cities that are part of the International Organization of Francophone Mayors to join this urgent support initiative. The aim is to assist Artsakh residents who have taken refuge in the Republic of Armenia and to deliver food to the population of Artsakh via a humanitarian convoy.
It is noteworthy that the Paris City Council unanimously adopted a resolution in October 2022 in support of the Armenian people, calling on the French government to condemn Azerbaijan's aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia and to impose sanctions on Azerbaijani leaders.
