Later, the publication revised its observation, stating: 'It became clear that predictions regarding the end of the Turkish president's political career were largely misinterpreted. The difference in votes between Erdoğan (49.40%) and his rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu (44.96%) in the first round of the elections was not that significant. However, Kılıçdaroğlu’s remarkable comeback suggests that Erdoğan may extend his 20-year rule in Turkey.' It is worth noting that the second round of the presidential elections is expected in Turkey on May 28, as neither of the candidates—neither Recep Tayyip Erdoğan nor Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu—was able to gather more than 50%+1 votes in the first round held on May 14.
