EU Mission Unable to Facilitate Relationship Management in the South Caucasus, Says Zakharova

The inability of the European Union to act as an "honest broker" is evident in any negotiation process it joins. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commenting on the meeting between representatives of Serbia and Kosovo facilitated by the EU.

According to her, the EU is applying pressure on Belgrade in an effort to compel it to recognize Kosovo's statehood. Zakharova noted, "The European Union's inability to fulfill the role of an 'honest broker' is evident in any negotiation process it participates in. The same situation applies to the EU's 'civil' mission in Armenia, which was launched in February of this year. It has failed to contribute in any way to the resolution of relationships in the South Caucasus."
