Azerbaijan's Installation of Checkpoint Contradicts Our Call, Josep Borrell
The EU's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Josep Borrell, has deemed Azerbaijan's installation of a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor as contrary to the EU's call for reducing tensions.
Borrell expressed this stance following a meeting of EU foreign ministers. He stated, “We have discussed Azerbaijan's unilateral decision to install a checkpoint near the entrance to the Lachin corridor, which contradicts our call to decrease tensions. Issues should be resolved through dialogue.”
He emphasized the importance of Azerbaijan building trust with the Armenian side as a foundation for progress in normalizing relations.
This move marks yet another serious violation by Azerbaijan of the provisions of the 2020 trilateral statement, as the country closed the Hakar Bridge in the Lachin corridor on April 23 and illegally set up a checkpoint.
