Discussion on Total Export Ban to Russia
A number of key allies of Ukraine, including the United States, are considering the possibility of imposing a near-total export ban on Russia. This information is reported by Bloomberg.
Officials from the G7 countries are discussing this idea on the eve of the G7 leaders' summit scheduled in Japan for May. According to the source, the proposal is still under discussion and may change.
This approach could completely alter the current sanctions regime by prohibiting the sale of any goods to Russia, except for a small list of permitted products. Under the current rules, the sanctions regime imposed against Moscow operates in the exact opposite way – any export is implicitly permitted, with restrictions only applying in specific cases.
