"We Will Not Allow This to Happen": Frank Pallone on Azerbaijani Policies
The Azerbaijani attack on Artsakh and the blockade of the Lachin corridor are continuations of the Armenian Genocide, stated Frank Pallone, co-chair of the Congressional Armenian Caucus, during an event in the U.S. Congress dedicated to the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
"What is happening in Artsakh, the attack, the aggression that took place two years ago, the blockage of the Lachin corridor, is nothing but a continuation of genocide. We know that people in Artsakh are suffering from a lack of sufficient food and medication. It seems like genocide, but we will not allow this to happen. However, this is the same phenomenon, whether it is carried out by Azerbaijan or Turkey," emphasized the congressman.
Pallone also highlighted that this Azerbaijani aggression is not only directed at Artsakh. The Azerbaijani army continues incursions into Armenia, attempting to seize more territory. According to him, members of the Armenian Caucus have repeatedly reminded the U.S. Secretary of State that the blockade of the Lachin corridor is unacceptable. He expressed hope that the pressure exerted by the U.S. and other co-chairs of the Minsk Group will eventually lead to the reopening of the corridor, and that through negotiations, Artsakh will ultimately be recognized as Armenian territory.
Pallone also recalled that Congress has recognized the Armenian Genocide, a process that was not easy to achieve. He thanked Congressman Adam Schiff, who was the initiator of that legislation. Pallone also praised President Joe Biden's recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
