French and Polish Ambassadors Clash Over Ukraine Issue: Details

Disagreements between France and Poland have complicated negotiations over the European Union's weapons procurement for Ukraine and led to mutual accusations among diplomats. This was reported by РИА Новости, citing Politico.

“The dispute arose due to France’s stance, which believes that weapons procurement contracts should only be signed with EU companies. Representatives from several other member states argue that companies from the United States and the United Kingdom should also be included,” the publication states.

According to the article, the French ambassador in the EU criticized his Polish counterpart for stating in the media that Paris was obstructing the signing of the final agreement. The Polish diplomat responded that Paris was merely complicating the negotiations.

The publication indicates that Sweden has attempted to mediate the disagreements and proposed a new version of the agreement, but it was not signed. The compromise document limited upcoming contracts to “economic operators established in the Union and Norway,” but included a clause stating that the mandate should not set a precedent.
