MP Mher Sahakyan Charged

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has summoned MP Mher Sahakyan from the 'Hayastan' faction on April 14 and formally charged him, following which a preventive measure has been imposed prohibiting him from leaving. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

‘The charges have been brought under Article 297, Part 1, and Article 171, Part 2, Section 7 of the Criminal Code, namely, hooliganism and inflicting minor harm to a person's health under hooliganistic motives,’ the statement read.

It is recalled that on March 31, during a closed session of the National Assembly's State and Legal Affairs Committee, Mher Sahakyan had struck fellow parliamentary member Vladimir Vardanyan from the 'Civil Contract' faction.

The National Assembly also gave consent for criminal proceedings against Mher Sahakyan, with 65 votes in favor, in response to the request submitted by Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan.
