This Incident Could Have Also Caused Casualties. Avinyan Orders to Punish Those Responsible for the Collapse
Yerevan's Deputy Mayor Tigran Avinyan addressed the incident that occurred on April 1, when a landslide took place on the metro tracks, causing the metro to operate in emergency mode for some time.
During a working meeting at the Yerevan City Hall, Avinyan emphasized that a very rare and dangerous event had occurred.
"This incident very likely could have led to casualties. I believe our approach here should be very strict. Many of our builders or specialists from various fields, if they can even be called specialists, treat their work very casually, and because of this attitude, we had a landslide on April 1 on the metro tracks, which could have resulted in a carriage derailing and, in turn, could have led to fatalities. A driver coming from the opposite direction happened to see it, raised the alarm, and one line was halted. I want to request our partners in maintaining public order to impose the strictest penalties on the developer. I don’t think our police partners need to be reminded that an investigation is required here, as a truly dangerous incident has occurred," Avinyan stated.
The Deputy Mayor of Yerevan added that this type of negligent attitude could also manifest, for example, when constructing multi-apartment buildings. "We have this problem in all sectors; I want us not to tolerate such attitudes, as I believe this primarily serves the interests of our fellow citizens," Avinyan said.
As a result of the collapse that occurred on April 1 on the track section leading from the "Sasuntsi Davit" station of the Yerevan metro to the "Zoravar Andranik" station, the metro operated in emergency mode for some time.
