Why the Court is Not Detaining the Pro-Administration MP who Failed to Comply with the Ruling: 'Zhoghovurd'
'Zhoghovurd' newspaper reports that the Yerevan court has sent several notifications to MP Sisak Gabrielyan of the ruling Civil Contract faction, asking him to appear at court hearings related to his case. However, the member of parliament has not attended, claiming he did not receive the notifications. The judicial system has decided to send the notification to Gabrielyan via the National Assembly of Armenia, instructing him to appear in court.
So, for what case should Sisak Gabrielyan appear in the Yerevan court? The issue concerns MP Ashot Simonian from the 'Hayastan' faction, who has been charged with disrupting the normal functioning of the National Assembly during a gathering held on December 28, 2020, from 09:00 to 11:30 near the Armenian National Assembly on Demirchyan Street. During this gathering, which was aimed at obstructing the arrival of MPs, Simonian allegedly prevented Gabrielyan's passage and made inappropriate remarks.
According to reports, the MP attempted to avoid conflict and suggested opening the road, but an unidentified participant in the gathering struck Gabrielyan's vehicle with the intent of provoking a confrontation. This led to an altercation between the MP and the rally participants, during which Simonian allegedly made sexual insults and vandalized Gabrielyan’s vehicle.
This case is currently in court, overseen by a relative of Judicial Council member Sergey Chichoyan, named Zhora Chichoyan, whose notifications Gabrielyan has also ignored. Yesterday, 'Zhoghovurd' spoke with Sisak Gabrielyan to understand whether he will finally attend the court or if he will still claim he did not receive the notifications. Gabrielyan stated, 'I don't know what case you are talking about. I have received a notification, but I will not go this time either, as I will be out of the country. I am going to the United States.'
