Britain Will Not Help Ukraine Clean Uranium-Contaminated Soil, Zakharova Says
Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, warned about the terrible consequences of using depleted uranium munitions, which Britain has decided to send to Ukraine, during an appearance on the "Russia 24" television channel.
According to Zakharova, such munitions are not only dangerous for the civilian population and military personnel but also lead to long-term soil contamination. She noted that their usage will act like a delayed-action bomb, with effects lasting for decades and requiring huge resources for the subsequent decontamination of the area.
Zakharova hinted that the supplier of these shells would not participate in mitigating the consequences. "This is a process that continues for decades, and I remind you, it requires knowledge, substantial resources, investments, and so on. Who will do this, the Brits? Of course not, they have never done that," Zakharova stated.
It is worth noting that the decision to transfer munitions became known on March 21, 2023.
