Video: EU Flag Burned Outside Georgian Parliament
Participants of a protest in Rustaveli Avenue, Tbilisi, removed the European Union flag near the parliament building, trampled it, and then set it on fire. “Only one flag should fly in Georgia, and that is the Georgian flag, not this piece of cloth,” announced the protest organizers.
After tearing down and burning the EU flag, a clergyman took the stage, and the participants began to pray. “We should say not ‘Glory to Ukraine,’ but ‘Glory to God,’ ‘Glory to Georgia,’” said Morgoshian.
Earlier, the protesters marched chanting “Georgia,” “Long live Georgia,” “Georgia first,” and “Cowards, come out.” They presented three demands to the Georgian authorities: to free those convicted opponents of LGBTQ+ individuals who were arrested and subsequently sentenced after the events of July 5, 2021; to punish those who attempted to organize a coup and threw “Molotov cocktails” during protests against foreign agents' legislation on March 7-9; and to hold a referendum on the adoption of foreign agents' legislation, which recently led to unrest in Tbilisi.
The protesters also called on the government to reject foreign influence over the country and to rely on the Georgian people.
