Peace Agenda Is My Responsibility, and I Would Like to Receive Some Support from the Azerbaijani Public, Says Pashinyan
In 2018, when I became the Prime Minister of Armenia, during one of the press conferences, I addressed social media users in Armenia and Azerbaijan, urging them not to use these platforms for hate speech, aggressive, and offensive rhetoric, but rather to attempt to communicate with each other and understand one another's positions. Unfortunately, my initiative failed. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a discussion on March 2 titled 'Security and Stability in the South Caucasus: The Future of Armenia' in response to a question from an Azerbaijani representative.
‘But I completely agree with you. We must focus on a positive future, the future of our common region. Because it is a fact that the three countries of the South Caucasus - Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan - share very strong cultural similarities. That is a fact. And we must focus on the positive aspects. And you are right; we are interested, perhaps Armenia is even more interested in opening regional communications, and that is why Azerbaijan is trying to, so to speak, sell this at the highest price possible. We should concentrate on the positive opportunities for peace and cooperation. The peace agenda is my responsibility, and I would like to receive some support from the Azerbaijani public as well,’ Pashinyan stated.
