Is the ruling party dissatisfied with Avanesyan's work? The minister speaks about rumors of her resignation
The Minister of Health of Armenia, Anahit Avanesyan, confirmed that her mother is a shareholder of the "Armpharmacia" company. She spoke about this after a government meeting while answering journalists' questions.
Today, the newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reported that law enforcement is dealing with a criminal complaint filed against Avanesyan. According to the publication, investigators have information that the company "Armpharmacia," linked to Avanesyan's family, has shown significant activity in procurement processes, raising concerns of a conflict of interest.
"The Ministry of Health conducts all procurements openly and transparently, in accordance with the ‘Law on Procurements of the Republic of Armenia.’ Companies participate equally in competitions, and those offering the most favorable prices win. The process of conducting competitions is open, and you can see it for yourself," said Avanesyan, ruling out any influence she could have on the workings of "Armpharmacia."
Avanesyan noted that the company has been operating since the 1990s and has been participating in tenders. Furthermore, journalists and investigative organizations have conducted a thorough examination of "Armpharmacia"'s procurements and connections since 2020.
Regarding rumors circulating in the press that the ruling party is dissatisfied with Avanesyan's work and that her resignation may not be ruled out in the near future, Avanesyan stated that she has no intention of resigning.
In response to reports that the Special Investigative Service (SIS) is conducting checks in the ministry's subordinate structures, the minister responded that the SIS has been conducting investigations in the healthcare system and elsewhere over the past two years.
