Investigative Committee: Arrest Made in the Murder of 78-Year-Old Woman in Abovyan
Details are emerging regarding the murder of a 78-year-old woman that occurred on December 12, 2022, in one of the houses on Kotayk Street in the city of Abovyan. This was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
On December 12, 2022, at 09:10, a report was received by the Kotayk Division of the Police from the emergency medical services of the Abovyan Medical Center regarding a murder that took place in one of the houses on Kotayk Street.
As a result of urgent investigative and procedural actions, as well as operational-search measures, evidence surfaced suggesting that the murder was likely committed by a 25-year-old resident of Abovyan through strangulation in the victim's bedroom.
Following the incident, a criminal case was initiated on December 12, 2022, under Article 155, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia at the Abovyan Investigative Division of the Kotayk Regional Investigative Department. A decision was made to establish an investigative group, and examinations were appointed, with relevant instructions given to the investigative body.
On December 12, 2022, a 25-year-old resident of Abovyan was arrested on reasonable suspicion of having committed the aforementioned crime and was presented to the Abovyan Investigative Division. The pre-investigation is ongoing, and necessary measures are being taken to establish all circumstances of the committed crime.
Notification: The suspect or accused in the alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court verdict that has entered into legal force, in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
