US State Department Addresses Peace Negotiations Between Armenia and Azerbaijan
The Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department, Vedant Patel, discussed the current situation in the peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan during a press briefing this week, against the backdrop of the deployment of the European Union’s monitoring mission in Armenia.
In response to a reporter's question about whether this step would help achieve progress towards lasting peace in the region, the Deputy Spokesperson stated, “We hope so. And that is what the Secretary of State and Ambassador Rikert (the Senior Advisor for Caucasus negotiations and new co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group for the US) and others continue to emphasize when discussing this topic from this building. I don’t want to get ahead of the process, but of course our ultimate goal here is a peaceful resolution and solution between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
