US Allocates $2 Million for De-mining in Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Zone

The United States has allocated $2 million for de-mining operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, the State Department announced.

“In support of regional peace and cooperation, the United States is pleased to announce the allocation of $2,000,000 for humanitarian de-mining operations in areas affected by intense fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces in the South Caucasus in the fall of 2020. Mines and unexploded ordnance in the conflict zone continue to kill and maim civilians, hinder economic development, and obstruct the safe return of displaced persons.

Considering the $500,000 provided in November 2021, the new funding will continue to strengthen the technical capabilities of de-mining organizations to remove deadly mines and unexploded ordnance. These efforts play a crucial role in enhancing human security and allow displaced individuals to return to their homes and safely rebuild their lives,” the statement said.
