Unprecedented Situation: Kremlin Comments on Possible Visa Restrictions for Russians in EU
The introduction of visa restrictions for Russians in EU countries would require serious retaliatory measures from Moscow. This is how Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov commented on this possibility, as reported by RIA Novosti.
The political figure stated that the visa issue has always been an obstacle with Western countries, yet there have been significant advancements in this area before. He reminded that special visas have been introduced for students, cultural representatives, and diplomats.
According to Peskov, visa restrictions in the EU would be an unpleasant solution for many Russians. He regarded this situation as unprecedented.
“But unfortunately, this is the reality we live in, and we must be strong, brave, and continue down the path we have taken. We have no other choice,” summarized the spokesperson.
Earlier, it was reported that Russia had requested visas from the U.S. for 56 members of a delegation to represent the country at the UN General Assembly, but has yet to receive any visas.
The General Assembly session is set to begin on September 20, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, spokesperson Maria Zakharova, and other diplomats are expected to travel to New York. The U.S. State Department explained that they do not have the time to process the applications.
