Europeans Must Be Ready to 'Pay a Price' to Support Ukraine, Borrell
The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, stated in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País on Thursday that Europeans must be prepared to 'pay a price' for supporting Ukraine. According to Borrell, the situation surrounding Ukraine 'directly affects' Europe.
“All wars end in negotiations. The fact that we are providing military assistance to Ukraine does not mean that we are not doing everything possible for negotiations,” he said.
Borrell added, “Europeans must be ready to confront protracted conflicts in search of political solutions.” He emphasized that the southern European countries should not show a lack of solidarity regarding energy issues with the north.
“Spain can do a lot, as it has one third of the European liquefied natural gas capabilities. They can become an alternative gas gateway to Europe instead of Russia,” Borrell noted.
