‘Depriving us of positions and freedom will not stop our struggle’: another resignation

Arthur Khachatryan, a member of the ‘Armenia’ faction, has submitted his resignation from the position of deputy chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Issues.

This was announced in a post he made on his Facebook page. The post is as follows:

“Today, the members of the ruling party dealt another blow to Armenian parliamentarism, the state institutions of the Republic of Armenia, and Armenian statehood. The ruling party's majority in the National Assembly made decisions to recall Deputy Speaker Ishkhan Saghatelyan and the head of the Standing Committee on Economic Issues Vahe Hakobyan from their positions. These decisions were made unanimously, reminiscent of the most despicable traditions of the Soviet Union. Today, when our homeland is at risk of losing part of its territory, when there is a real danger of the destruction of Armenian state sovereignty, and when the enemy continues to threaten us with war, the only concern of the ruling party is their chairs. Let them not measure us with their yardsticks. Let them not hope that by depriving our friends of their positions, and many others even of their freedom, they will stop our struggle. This is a struggle for the existence of the Armenian people and Armenian statehood, not for positions and bonuses.

I have always taken any position I have held with utmost seriousness, integrity, and responsibility, putting in all my knowledge and enthusiasm. However, in this politically tragicomic situation, I consider it unacceptable to hold a political office any longer. Therefore, I hereby declare that effective today, I am resigning from the position of deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Issues of the National Assembly.”
