Yerevan and Baku Have the Opportunity to Move Forward in Normalizing Relations, Says US Assistant Secretary of State
Armenia and Azerbaijan now have the opportunity to advance the process of normalizing relations. This was stated by Karen Donfried, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, according to TASS.
“I believe there is real hope now that there is an opportunity for Armenia and Azerbaijan to move forward in the normalization of relations and to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict peacefully,” the US representative for foreign policy said.
“I think we have seen both countries taking significant steps,” Donfried added.
It is worth recalling that on May 22, a meeting took place in Brussels mediated by European Council President Charles Michel, involving Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The two agreed to hold the first meeting of the border commissions regarding the delimitation of the state borders of the two countries.
