Hajiyev Discusses Relationship Normalization with Armenia in the U.S.
Azerbaijan's presidential advisor for foreign relations Hikmet Hajiyev has discussed the process of normalizing relations with Armenia during his visit to Washington, as reported by the Turan agency.
Hajiyev met with Assistant Secretary of State Karen Donfried and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan during his stay in Washington.
Just hours before the commencement of Azerbaijani-American negotiations, the fact of their organization was confirmed by State Department spokesperson Ned Price.
“Assistant Secretary Donfried will convey to Mr. Hajiyev that U.S. support for direct communications between Azerbaijan and Armenia aligns with American interests. This includes our role as a co-chair country of the Minsk Group and support for recent efforts by the European Union aimed at bridging gaps between the parties,” stated the State Department spokesperson.
“The National Security Advisor of the White House highly values the significant historical and diplomatic efforts made by Azerbaijan and Armenia to achieve lasting peace,” added Adrienne Watson, the official representative of the U.S. National Security Council.
