US and Russian Chiefs of Staff Speak for the First Time Since Ukraine Invasion
On Thursday, US Army General Mark Milley had a phone conversation with the Chief of the General Staff of Russia, Valery Gerasimov. This was reported by the Pentagon, as noted by Reuters.
This marks the first dialogue between the two since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February.
The military leaders discussed several concerning security issues and agreed to keep communication channels open, according to a spokesperson for General Milley.
“In line with previous practices, specific details of their conversation will remain confidential,” the spokesperson added.
The military statement did not mention any specific topics that were discussed.
RIA Novosti, citing information from the Russian Ministry of Defense, reported that the two military leaders discussed “issues of mutual interest,” including Ukraine.
