Aliyev Speaks Again on Peace Agreement with Armenia and Baku's Principles
The principles proposed by Azerbaijan for Armenia should serve as the basis for a peace agreement, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. “We advocate for a peaceful agenda in the South Caucasus,” he emphasized.
According to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the proposed principles are as follows:
- Mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of international borders, and political independence.
- Mutual confirmation of the legal obligation to refrain from territorial claims against each other and not to present such claims in the future.
- Refraining from threatening each other's security in inter-state relations, threats against political independence and territorial integrity, use of force, and other circumstances incompatible with the objectives of the UN Charter.
- Demarcation and delimitation of state borders, establishment of diplomatic relations.
- Opening of transport and communications, establishment of other communications, and cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
