Estonia and Latvia Parliaments Qualify Russia's Actions in Ukraine as Genocide

The parliaments of Estonia and Latvia have adopted statements labeling Russia's actions in Ukraine as genocide. These are the first such documents in the world, writes RTVI.

In a statement published on the website of Estonia's Riigikogu (Parliament), it is stated that Russia has committed genocide against the civilian population, including in the cities of Bucha, Borodyanka, Hostomel, Irpin, and Mariupol, as well as in many other settlements across Ukraine.

"These (genocidal actions) include murder, kidnapping, deportation, imprisonment, torture, rape, and desecration of corpses," the statement reads.

A similar document has also been adopted by the Latvian Saeima (Parliament). It emphasizes the country's support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people, and considers Russia's actions as violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
