Turkey Bans Fishing in the Black Sea Following Mine Discovery

The Turkish authorities have announced a partial ban on fishing in a section of the Black Sea following the discovery of a mine in the Bosporus. This was reported by TASS, citing Turkey's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

“From today (March 26, 2022) and until further notice, a ban on all types of fishing is imposed in the waters of the Black Sea between Bulgaria and Kefken from sunset to sunrise,” the ministry stated.

Earlier today, Turkey's National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar announced that an object found earlier in the Bosporus Strait had been identified as a mine. Fishermen in the vicinity of the Saryer-Turkeli anchorage reported an object reminiscent of a mine, prompting the suspension of shipping traffic in both directions on the Bosporus.

Later, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the demining of the object, and the Bosporus was reopened to vessel movement.
