The Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly Fails: Opposition's Attempt Thwarted
The attempt by the opposition to convene an extraordinary session of the National Assembly ultimately failed. After the allocated 4 hours elapsed, a quorum was not reached. Of the 107 members called to the special session, only 31 were present, among them just one representative from the ruling majority—the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and acting Speaker Hakob Arshakyan. A total of 54 members were needed to secure a quorum.
On the agenda for the meeting was just one question—the draft declaration presented by the 'Armenia' faction, which condemns the so-called Azerbaijani-Turkish 'Shushi Declaration.' Earlier, the draft declaration had not received support from the National Assembly committee because members of the ruling Civil Contract party abstained from voting.
