US Senate Threatens Belarus with Sanctions
US Senator James Lankford has introduced a bill in the Senate holding Belarus accountable for its aggression against Ukraine. This was revealed on Saturday, February 12.
“Senator James Lankford has introduced the Accountability for Belarus’ Aggression Act to deter Belarus from allowing Russia to use its territory to invade Ukraine,” states the politician's website.
Sanctions would be imposed if Belarus participates in the invasion alongside Russia, provides any material, tactical, or other assistance to Moscow, engages with Russian forces involved in the invasion, conducts reconnaissance during attacks on Ukraine, or acquires or transfers lethal weapons used in that country.
“Belarus is hosting thousands of Russian troops right up to the border of Ukraine. The US must make it clear that any country that aids Russia’s attempts to invade Ukraine will face tough economic and diplomatic sanctions,” Lankford said.
Furthermore, the bill also allows for sanctions against not only Belarus but any other country that supports “Russia’s ongoing unprovoked aggression against Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
