Mayor Ignores the Deteriorating State of Public Transport, Which Is Increasingly Malfunctioning: "Pahst"
Recently, Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan complained during an operational meeting about the dirty hand sanitizers secured with tape in public transport, as well as the neglected and filthy condition of the bus stops. It is indeed true that the situation is as such. However, it is surprising that the mayor has not paid any attention to the actual condition of public transport, which is increasingly performing poorly. While inspections related to public transport were occasionally conducted some time ago, for the past two months, intra-city transport has practically turned into a "coronavirus incubator," with some routes essentially out of service.
The "Pahst" daily reports: For instance, it would be better if Hrachya Sargsyan visited Tbilisi Highway and attempted to use the transport system. The bus route number 21, which used to operate at intervals of 10-15 minutes, is nearly nonexistent; one can wait for hours in vain, while relying on the intercity route number 259 is at least pointless. As a result, the seldom-seen ancient "Gazelle" vehicles of route 21 are so overcrowded that one wonders how they manage to reach their destinations at all. The same situation exists in several other neighborhoods.
By the way, in response to residents' inquiries, the municipality states that the issue will be studied in the context of general "reforms." Is it not possible to at least control the working intervals in the current situation, until the uncertain prospect of "reforms" is addressed, or has it become a habit for all officials to disregard the public? Otherwise, what good are the hand sanitizers and bus stops?
Details in today’s issue of the "Pahst" daily.
