The Drink That Should Be Avoided After Infection with Omicron Has Been Named
After contracting the COVID-19 Omicron variant, it is advisable to avoid beverages containing caffeine and other stimulants during the recovery period, stated neurologist Igor Matsokin to Gazeta.ru.
After being infected with the coronavirus, people often experience feelings of fatigue and attempt to shake it off through familiar means, such as drinking coffee. However, caffeine destroys adenosine triphosphate in the body, which promotes healthy metabolism. Matsokin emphasized that usually, after Omicron, people's reserves of this acid are already quite low.
“During the post-coronavirus period, it is better to minimize the effects of caffeine-containing stimulants. Caffeine can lead to dehydration and, as a result, an increase in blood clotting. The decrease of trace elements in the blood, such as potassium, negatively affects the heart and cardiovascular system,” the doctor explained.
Matsokin recommended that those infected with the Omicron variant gradually include caffeine-containing beverages in their diet. After coffee, it might be beneficial to add weak tea, such as green or white tea, after some time.
