Response from the Russian Embassy in Washington to US Sanction Threats
Russia is not planning to withdraw in response to threats of sanctions from the United States, which are contributing to the escalation of tensions in bilateral relations. This was announced by the Russian Embassy in Washington on its Facebook page.
“The generator of tension is not Moscow, but Washington. We do not intend to retreat, listening to the threats of American sanctions,” the diplomatic mission stated.
The embassy emphasized that it is the US that encouraged the radical-nationalistic coup in Kyiv, as a result of which the residents of Crimea faced the threat of annihilation and voted in favor of reuniting with Russia.
They also recalled that Washington supplies modern offensive weapons to the Ukrainian authorities, aligning with the aspirations of Vladimir Zelensky's government to resolve the Donbas issue through military means.
Russian diplomats also accused the US of breaching the principle of indivisibility of security by expanding its military infrastructure up to Russian borders. The statement highlighted that Russia has the sovereign right to move its armed forces within its territory, and this poses no threat to anyone.
