Turkey Will Fulfill Its NATO Obligations, Minister Says on Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Turkey will fully comply with the provisions of the Montreux Convention regarding the status of the straits amid the tensions surrounding Ukraine. This was stated by the Minister of National Defense, Hulusi Akar, as reported by TASS.
According to him, Ankara will continue communications with both Moscow and Kyiv for the resolution of their relations.
“The status of the straits (rules for the passage of ships from Black Sea and non-Black Sea countries) established by the convention is beneficial to all parties. Under the current circumstances, there can be no talk of abandoning this convention. As for the Black Sea dialogue, Turkey is doing everything necessary. We will continue our dialogue with Russia and Ukraine and will fulfill our obligations to NATO,” the minister is quoted by the TRT television channel.
