Could the ‘Mekhri Story’ Repeat in Vayk? - ‘Pasti’
‘Pasti’ newspaper writes: According to our sources, the ruling Civil Contract Party (CPP) is struggling not only with the fact that they lost in several communities on October 17, but also with the realization that they have little chance of winning in most communities in the December 5 elections. Additionally, their ‘brilliant’ strategy is collapsing. The authorities strive to participate in elections on a ‘network’ principle, which means promoting pro-government forces in areas where they either do not have candidates or their candidates are weak.
However, for instance, in Meghri, representatives of the Republic Party (Aram Z. Sargsyan) and the Liberal Party (Samvel Babayan) signed a coalition agreement, effectively rendering the ruling CPP opposition in that location. While both parties are more than aligned with the authorities, the mere fact of forming a coalition has reportedly put pressure on the government.
It is noteworthy that a similar situation could arise in the upcoming local elections in Vayk on December 5. Locals claim that the strongest candidate in these elections is Karlyan Minasyan from the Republic Party, while his main rival is Simonyan Babayan from the Liberal Party. According to our information, following the ‘Mekhri story’, authorities have turned their attention to Vayk and want to suppress fleeting candidates at any cost, although locals believe that the CPP candidate has no chance of winning.
While it may be easier to suppress Samvel Babayan’s representative for various reasons, including past activities, they have yet to find anything against Karlyan Minasyan. According to our sources, Samvel Babayan has promised to lobby on behalf of the ruling elite for his candidate, but following the situation in Meghri, it is said that Simonyan Babayan’s condition has worsened.
