Police Detaining Various Supporters of 'Arush Arushanyan' Alliance Since Yesterday, Says Goris Deputy Mayor
The police have been detaining various supporters of the 'Arush Arushanyan' alliance since yesterday. This was stated by Menua Hovsepyan, the Deputy Mayor of Goris, in a conversation with Tert.am, addressing the ongoing local elections in Goris.
"They are being detained without a specific reason, arbitrarily, within a framework of some suspicions, and then they are released without any basis," Hovsepyan said, adding that another supporter of the alliance was detained today as well.
Earlier, Hovsepyan had expressed to the media that a large police presence had been brought to Syunik to create an atmosphere of fear.
It is worth noting that Arush Arushanyan, the mayoral candidate for Goris, is currently in custody, while Menua Hovsepyan was recently released on a bail of 30 million drams. Today, local elections are also taking place in eight other communities across Armenia besides Goris.
