No Threat to Tcharchyan's Health, Says Karen Andreasian
The life of Armenian National Assembly member and former head of the Izmirlian Medical Center, Armen Tcharchyan, is not in danger. This was announced by the Minister of Justice, Karen Andreasian, during a briefing with journalists after today's cabinet meeting.
“Our care for Mr. Tcharchyan has been exceptional. I have received reports almost daily, we have been involved and done everything lawfully. According to the latest reports, there is no threat to Mr. Tcharchyan's health,” Andreasian stated. “Mr. Tcharchyan’s condition is of such concern that he has spent almost no hours in the cell. His imprisonment has been continually under medical supervision, both by our institutions and by civilian healthcare facilities,” he added.
The minister has not visited Tcharchyan, stating that he does not consider it appropriate to visit any detainee based on political selection.
It should be noted that on June 18, a recording surfaced online in which Tcharchyan was heard advising employees to participate in the parliamentary elections, implying not to vote for the current authorities. On the same day, Tcharchyan was arrested. On June 21, the Central Electoral Commission permitted criminal proceedings to be initiated against Tcharchyan. He was detained and later released on a bail of 15 million AMD. Tcharchyan was once again detained on August 23.
