Armenia Receives Thousands of Readmission Requests from EU and EEU Countries
Over the past three years, Armenia has received more than 5,000 readmission requests regarding individuals from EU and EEU countries, the majority of which are from Germany. This information comes from a statistical report received from the Migration Service in response to a written inquiry.
The requests pertain to the readmission of individuals residing without permission in EU and EEU countries.
Specifically, in 2018, there were 1,030 readmission requests concerning 2,045 individuals from EU and EEU countries. In 2019, 921 requests related to 1,746 individuals were received, while in 2020, there were 725 readmission requests concerning 1,281 individuals.
It is noteworthy that in 2020 alone, Armenia received readmission requests for more than 1,385 individuals from Germany, 182 from Austria, 139 from the Netherlands, 126 from France, 78 from Sweden, 50 from Russia, and 44 from Belgium. Out of 2,055 requests received from EU and EEU countries in 2020, 1,663 were confirmed, while the citizenship of 333 individuals was not confirmed.
It should be emphasized that in the last three years, Armenia has received requests for readmission concerning approximately 4,000 individuals from Germany.
According to the German Embassy in Armenia, Armenians most frequently apply for EU entry visas.
However, in recent years, Germany has tightened its migration policy due to the refugee crisis created in 2015 by the influx of refugees from Africa and the Middle East.
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, everyone has the right to leave any country, including their own, and to return to their country. Furthermore, it is a principle of international customary law that every country should readmit its citizens.
The Constitution of the Republic of Armenia stipulates that everyone has the right to leave and enter the Republic of Armenia.
