National Security Service Issues Statement

Considering the importance and national significance of the parliamentary snap elections scheduled for June 20, 2021, the National Security Service of Armenia informs that it will take effective measures using all legally permitted tools to prevent, detect, and organize criminal prosecution against violations of human and citizen constitutional rights and freedoms, and to ensure the legal conduct of the elections. It also reminds that according to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, power belongs to the people. The people exercise their power through free elections, referendums, and through state and local self-government bodies and officials as prescribed by the Constitution.

At the same time, the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia reminds that the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia prescribes strict penalties for hindering the exercise of electoral rights, obstructing the work of electoral commissions or the implementation of the authority of participants in the election, submitting false information, presenting forged documents, or voting more than once or on behalf of another person in any way. It is also forbidden to compel the voter to disclose the result of their vote, check the ballot to reveal the voting result, access the voting booth, bribe voters, accept bribes, violate the ban on charity during elections, or obstruct the free will of voters, as well as act as an intermediary for electoral bribery.
