NSS Must Focus on National Security, Not on Foolish Assignments Like Hunting for Satan, Says Robert Kocharian

Complete failure. This is the situation today, said the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian, while presenting the pre-election program of the "Armenia" alliance.

He noted that the first action they will take in the field of security is to restore the combat readiness of the armed forces. "There is simply no other way to ensure dignified peace. The army is the backbone of the country's security. It must be modern, as professional and combat-ready as possible. Our army needs support and serious reform, and we must eliminate these risks for the future. The NSS must focus on national security issues again, not on foolish assignments like hunting for Satan, checking cash register receipts, or persecuting the opposition. We will take measures to ensure that the NSS is never again transformed into a tool of political surveillance," emphasized Robert Kocharian.

He also remarked that the police are not established to ensure the safe movement of a single official, to satisfy their whims, or to serve pathological fears. "We will return the police to the field of functions prescribed exclusively by the laws of the Republic of Armenia. What we see almost every day is abnormal," said Robert Kocharian.
