Former US Officials Identify Possible Venues for Putin-Biden Meeting
Former US officials and analysts have pointed to Reykjavik, Prague, Ljubljana, and Baku as potential venues for a summit between US President Joe Biden and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Politico reports, “As President Biden and President Putin prepare for a possible one-on-one meeting, their aides will try to determine the best location…”
According to media reports, individual countries have already proposed their main cities as potential platforms for the events. Among them are Switzerland, Finland, and Austria. Meanwhile, former US officials and analysts have indicated to the newspaper that other cities should not be ruled out as possible meeting spots.
On May 4, Biden announced that he is “hopeful and looking forward” to meeting with Putin when he travels to Europe in mid-June for meetings with NATO leaders, the G7 summit, and the US-EU summit. Former US officials and analysts believe it would be beneficial for the US President to meet in the capital of one of the nearby countries.
