Political Life Calms After Decision to Hold Snap Elections, Says Edmon Marukyan
Since the decision was made to hold snap elections between parliamentary forces, the political life has calmed down, although it remains relative. The message associated with the snap elections is that all forces are moving forward to see what the citizens of the Republic of Armenia will decide, and according to the Constitution, power belongs to the people.
This was stated by Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the Enlightened Armenia faction, during a special session of the National Assembly where the issue of electing a prime minister was discussed. He noted that apart from organizing snap elections, there has been no other resolution to the situation, and the forces have been compelled to initiate the process of dissolving this parliament.
"All the grievances that existed in the previous period must not be allowed to persist, and to prevent all of that, the first responsible party is the government, while the opposition will do everything in its power with its available data and mechanisms to ensure that the election process is not disrupted in any way. The agreements reached are essentially in effect, and there has been no deviation regarding the dissolution of the parliament, and we will have this same process one more time," Edmon Marukyan said.
He also called on the parties participating in the snap elections to take necessary measures to exclude hate speech. "Hate speech, insults, threatening language, talk about the use of force, and any formulation that could lead to violence or any incidents of violence during the campaign must be excluded, and it should be noted that political entities will not use hate speech so that we can form the next parliament without turbulence, which must pull Armenia out of this situation," he emphasized.
It should be reminded that Nikol Pashinyan has resigned from the position of prime minister to hold snap parliamentary elections. It should also be noted that after this, the National Assembly must not elect a prime minister twice.
