Aliyev Discusses Biden's Remarks on Armenian Genocide with Blinken
During a phone conversation with Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed concern regarding U.S. President Joe Biden's remarks about the events of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire. This was reported by TASS, citing the Azerbaijani president's press service.
Aliyev labeled Biden's statement as a "historical mistake."
“Turkey is a friend and ally of Azerbaijan. Turkey plays a very important and positive role in the post-war region, and Biden's words have been met with concern by the country's leadership and society,” the statement said.
Aliyev and Blinken also discussed the situation that has arisen following the Nagorno-Karabakh war. Aliyev emphasized the importance of unblocking communications in the region. Additionally, they exchanged thoughts on the further activities of the OSCE Minsk Group.
It is noteworthy that U.S. President Joe Biden, in his April 24 message, stated that the American people honor the memory of all Armenians who lost their lives during the Armenian Genocide perpetrated in the Ottoman era.
